Daniel C. Siu, MS, MBA

Mr. Siu founded Rainbow Genomics in 2016. He brings 30 years of experience in genetics and life science business to the company.

Before founding Rainbow, Mr. Siu co-founded Nextcode Health in 2013, a U.S. and Iceland-based clinical bioinformatics and "big data" company, and served as VP, worldwide sales and marketing.  Nextcode was acquired for US$65M in 2015 after only one year in operations.

In 2011, Mr. Siu co-founded U.S.-based Axeq Technologies with the chairman of Macrogen, providing next-generation-sequencing services worldwide. Mr. Siu served as the executive vice president.  Axeq rapidly grew into a significant player, and subsequently merged with Macrogen, contributing over 200 key clients to the parent company. Macrogen is now the world's largest DNA sequencing service provider.

Between 2005 and 2011, Mr. Siu was a managing director at deCODE Genetics, running their genomics service business with dominant market positions in both the U.S. and Asia.  At that time, Mr. Siu introduced the world’s first Direct-to-Consumer genetic test, "deCODEme", to consumers in Japan, Hong Kong and China.  Between 2006-2010, deCODE was the worldwide market leader providing genome-wide-association-study services to over 100 medical schools and national institutions in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Between 1989 and 2005, Mr. Siu assumed product line manager and director positions at Beckman Instruments, Dionex, Ingenuity and Applied Biosystems.  He was instrumental in launching Beckman’s P/ACE 2000 capillary electrophoresis system in 1990, the first automated system for DNA analysis, and ABI’s 3700 Genetic Analyzer’s software product lines, contributing to the completion of the human genome project in 2000.

Mr. Siu received his B.S. in molecular biology from the University of Texas, Austin, his M.S. in bioinorganic chemistry from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and his MBA from San Francisco State University.
